Clear Your Cookies

Quick Tip 1: Clear the Cache!

It is very surprising how simple it is to keep a computer well maintained. However we feel that because of a lack of general computer knowledge, this task is difficult for many people. One great tip we tell everyone is to clear their cache. It is very simple and takes very little time. We have posted the general steps below:1. Open your Web Browser (Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.)2. Go to the "Tools" Menu (on the top of the browser)3. Click Options4. Go to the Privacy Tab or look for the "Clear Cookies/Cache" option5. Make sure to Clear ALL Cookies and Cache settings (except saved passwords if you would like to keep those)6. Proceed to clear them, and press Okay7. Press Okay on the Browser Window, and you are now done!

Dust Out Your Computer

Quick Tip 2: Dust-Off is a Computer's Best Friend

Another quick tip we tell most of our customers, is to keep the hardware maintained. This is very easy to do as well, all you need to do is buy a can of air duster and blow out the machine! Steps are listed below:1. Purchase a can of Dust-Off or Compressed-Air Duster2. Locate the screws which hold on the computer's side panel (they should be on the back side of the case)3. Unscrew these screws using a phillips screwdriver, and slide the panel off4. Use the duster and a vacuum if possible to blow away and suck up all of the dust that is in there5. Do not touch any of the computer components with your fingers as static shock can cause hardware failure6. Make sure to blow the duster in all corners and vents to get all of the dust out7. Slide the side panel back on8. Screw in the panel screws and you are done!

Remove Unused Programs

Quick Tip 3: Clean up the Hard Drive and Registry

One thing we notice while working on most computers is that there are a lot of unnecessary programs. We recommend clearing out these programs by uninstalling them from your system. You are the best person to do this, since you know what you use and do not use!1. Go to Start on the Desktop2. Go to Control Panel3. Locate the "Uninstall a Program" link (it may be under the Programs sub-menu)4. After the Programs list loads, go through and uninstall the programs that you do not use5. If you do not know what it is, or it is a Microsoft related program, do NOT uninstall it6. If you are unsure of what is good, bad, used or unused, please contact us for more information

A big annoyance for most people is the amount of toolbars they have on their web browser. You can easily clean up all of that clutter and get rid of the ones you do not use or need. Steps are posted below:1. Open your Web Browser (Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.)2. Go to the "View" Menu (on top of your browser)3. Under the "Toolbars" sub-menu, un-check those which you do not want or use4. See Quick Tip 3 for uninstalling the toolbar from your computer if necessary

Quick Tip 5: Orginization is Key for Optimal Efficiency

We often tell our clients that part of our job is teaching them how to use their computer more efficiently. This means keeping everything organized and up to date as disorginization can lead to future problems. The best way to start, is by organizing your desktop!1. On the desktop, locate any files or folders that you have, and place them into your documents where they belong2. On the desktop, locate any programs you have that you do not use, and delete them by dragging them into the recycle bin3. Place the Icons where you like them, that way you always know where they are and if something changes!

Another great tip we tell our clients is to keep their Documents (Movies, Pictures, Music, Excel, Word, etc.) organized and in their designated folders. That way, important files do not get deleted or moved on accident!1. Place Music into the "My Music" Folder if it is not already there2. Place Office Documents into the "My Documents" folder if they are not already there3. Place Pictures into the "My Picutres" folder if they are not already there4. Place Videos and Movies into the "My Videos" folder if they are not already there5. Place all Other Documents into your "My Documents" folder and organize them by creating sub-folders

Quick Tip 7: How to use your Task Manager

The Task Manager is a very simple tool used to watch, survey, start, and end programs while the computer is running. It is very common on older machines, and even newer ones, that a program stops repsonding. This leads the user to frustration, as they have to wait for the computer to fix the problem. One way a user can intervene, is by opening the Task Manager and ending the program manually:1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc on the keyboard at the same time (or Ctrl + Alt + Del)2. Start the Task Manager (if it does not open automatically)3. Under the Applications tab, you can see which programs are not responding4. Click the program that is not responding, and hit "End Task"5. Close any windows that pop-up after that, and you are finished!

We pride ourselves in the visual spacial and orginization skills required to build a CompZero Computer. It is not just a matter of having all the components connected, it is a matter of having them connected efficiently. We beleive that the computer can acheive it's ultimate airflow and cooling capabilities with the right kind of Cable Management. This means that all of the wiring and cables are neatly affixed to the case and routed around essential components that require effective cooling. When cables get in the way of everything (like on Dell or HP computers), the computer collects more dust internally and thus causes overheating. This overheating in turn causes long-term hardware damage which can result in the failure of main components that make the computer run. Simple Cable Management is a necessary step in making sure that the computer's life is not jeapordized by overheating.4. What kind of warranties do you offer? All of our components are backed by the manufacturers for at least three to five years. Some components have manufacturer's life-time warranties! And we guarantee the computer for a year of free service - meaning if anything goes wrong with the hardware, we will fix it at no cost. This also includes one free Hardware Cleaning at the end of the year as well. What this means for you, is that the computer hardware is guaranteed to work for three to five years (however the computer itself can last you forever if it is well maintained), and will perform at optimal speed and efficiency as long as you remain a customer with us.
